The Never Settle message was coined by Pastor Don Pittman on Easter Sunday, 2006. The phrase was inspired by his own life journey, a journey that included an extremely difficult battle with cancer. In April 1999, Don was diagnosed with an incurable form of blood cancer known as multiple myeloma. Despite an original prognosis that was unsure if he would even leave the hospital alive, Don fought through a summer of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant and went into a remission. Don used this inspirational story to found Don was told he couldn’t succeed time and time again. When he was first diagnosed, doctors were unsure he would even leave the hospital. Just weeks later, Don returned home to continue his cancer treatments. When the cancer attacked Don’s leg, surgeons were pessimistic about his chances to ever walk unassisted again. Don was able to walk again without a walker or crutches within eight months of the surgery. Even the last relapse carried a promise of only two more months of life; Don was able to survive for over a year, and he continued his work at Higher Calling throughout the process. This type of determination is central to the Never Settle message. Far too often, we accept the status quo in our lives. For whatever reason, we accept living in a band of mediocrity, aspiring merely to be normal, never daring to think our lives could be extraordinary. We settle for far less than what we are capable of achieving. Never Settle is about seizing God’s very best for our lives. Even in times of great difficulty, we can accomplish amazing things with the time we have been given on earth. No excuses, no retreat, no surrender, never back down. Never Settle. Since being diagnosed with a blood cancer called Multiple Myeloma in April of 1999 there is one lesson I have learned with great clarity, NEVER SETTLE It is easy to quit and believe your circumstances will never improve but you were created for a grand purpose. So choose today to NEVER SETTLE -Don Pittman
